Wallpaper Guide
Everything you need to know about choosing, measuring and installing wallpaper. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced decorator, you'll find practical tips and step-by-step instructions here.
How to install wallpaper - step by step
1. Tools you need
Gather everything you need before you start: wallpaper paste, roller or brush for paste, wallpaper brush or plastic smoother, spirit level, tape measure, sharp snap-off knife, cutting ruler and a clean sponge. All tools are available in our wallpaper tool kit.
2. Measure your wall
Measure the wall width and wall height carefully. Add 10 cm to both width and height for margin during installation. Use our wall tool to calculate exactly how much wallpaper you need.
3. Prepare the wall
Make sure the wall is smooth, clean and dry. Fill any holes and sand down uneven surfaces. Sand to a smooth finish. Prime the wall with wallpaper primer or diluted wallpaper paste - this improves adhesion and makes it easier to adjust panels.
4. Apply paste
Roll wallpaper paste evenly directly onto the wall with a roller (paste-the-wall method). Paste an area slightly wider than one panel at a time. Work from top to bottom to avoid the paste drying out.
5. Hang the wallpaper
Start with the first panel in a corner or by a window. Use a spirit level to ensure the panel is straight. Press the panel from top to bottom with a wallpaper brush or plastic smoother. Work from the centre outwards to smooth out air bubbles.
6. Pattern matching
Match the pattern carefully between panels by sliding the new panel until the pattern aligns with the previous one. Our panels are delivered numbered for easy installation. Avoid pulling or stretching the wallpaper.
7. Cut and trim
Trim excess material at the ceiling and skirting boards with a sharp snap-off knife and a cutting ruler. Change the blade frequently for clean cuts. Wipe off excess paste with a damp sponge immediately - dried paste can leave shiny marks.
8. Drying time
Let the wallpaper dry at room temperature (18-22°C) for at least 24 hours. Avoid draughts, direct sunlight and heating during drying. Do not ventilate the room until the wallpaper has dried completely.
Tips and advice
Temperature and humidity
Install wallpaper at room temperature (18-22°C) and avoid draughts. Avoid wallpapering in direct sunlight or in rooms with very high humidity.
Care and maintenance
Our non-woven wallpapers are wipeable. Use a damp cloth to remove stains. Avoid harsh cleaning products. Self-adhesive PVC wallpapers are more durable and can be wiped with a mild cleaning agent.
Our wallpaper types
Non-woven (paste the wall)
Our most popular option. The wallpaper is applied by pasting the wall instead of the paper, making installation easier and faster. Made from durable FSC-certified material, printed with GreenGuard-certified inks. PVC-free and fade-resistant.
Self-adhesive (Peel & Stick)
Perfect for rentals and quick projects. Just peel off the backing paper and stick to the wall - no paste needed. Easy to remove without damaging the surface. Made from durable, water-resistant vinyl.
